The Shanghai Association of Automotive Manufacturers has worked out the local technical standards for vehicles with small displacements, and now it is waiting approval by the government, said Ma Daxiong, deputy secretary-general of the association.

For the sake of energy efficiency, environmental protection, and driving security, the association decided to set a threshold for vehicles entering Shanghai's market, although they are first subject to the national standards.

The upcoming technical rules stipulate that the maximum speed of 0.8-liter vehicles or smaller ones should be no less than 130 kilometers per hour (km/h), and 140 km/h for those between 0.8 liters and 1.5 liters.
