A thanks letter to Macao donators
( 2003-11-25 14:43) (Xinhua)

The Macao News Daily on Tuesday carried a letter of thanks sent by the China Spaceflight Foundation on Macao's donation, which was added up to 14 million patacas (US $1.75 million) after the swirl trip of China's first astronaut Yang Liwei in Macao earlier this month.

The letter acclaimed Macao compatriots' generosity in supporting the country's development of space technology. Donations were coming from political and business dignitaries, students and common folks in Macao to the foundation.

With a population of 450,000, Macao had a per-capita donation of 31 patacas (about US $4 ) to the foundation. The fever was aroused by the trip of China's first manned space mission and Yang Liwei's trip to the Special Administrative Region.

Of the total, Macao's Chief Executive Edmund Ho Hau Wah contributed a personal donation worth 300,000 patacas (US $37,500 ).

The foundation's letter said that the donation embodied a strong sense of patriotism of Macao compatriots. It pledged to make good use of every penny of the donation to further prosper China's space cause.
