Former Brazilian international and World Cup winner Romario will set his foot on England and join the non-league team Garforth Town, the English club said on Friday.

The 39-year-old will be another high-profile Brazilian soccer star joining the club, which is based in a former pit village nearLeeds in Yorkshire.

Last year former Brazil captain Socrates was also persuaded to join the club owned by Simon Clifford, who named a number of Brazilian players among his friends and owns a string of soccer schools in the South American country.

Romario, the 1994 World Cup winner who now plays for Vasco de Gama in Brazil, will join Garforth Town for the 2005-06 Northern Counties Eastern League (NCEL) competition.

Romario, who was sacked by Fluminense before joining Vasco in January, last played for Brazil in a World Cup qualifier away to Uruguay in 2001.

Garforth are top of the NCEL Division One table, having won 16 of their 24 matches this season.
