“和平統一” peaceful reunification/ reunify peacefully
胡錦濤同志在十七大報告中強調，解決臺灣問題、實現祖國完全統一，是全體中華兒女的共同心愿。我們將遵循“和平統一、一國兩制”的方針和現階段發展兩岸關系、推進祖國和平統一，堅持一個中國原則決不動搖，反對“臺獨”分裂活動決不妥協，牢牢把握兩岸關系和平發展的主題，維護國家主權和領土完整，維護中華民族根本利益。
以下是新華社的英文報道：
The mainland is ready to hold exchanges, dialogue, consultations and negotiations with any political party in Taiwan on any issue as long as it recognizes that both sides of the Straits belong to one and the same China, Hu said.
He also vowed to make every effort with the utmost sincerity to achieve peaceful reunification. "We will never allow anyone to separate Taiwan from the motherl and in any name, or by any means."
胡錦濤指出，臺灣任何政黨，只要承認兩岸同屬一個中國，我們都愿意同他們交流對話、協商談判，什么問題都可以談。我們愿以最大誠意、盡最大努力實現兩岸和平統一，絕不允許任何人以任何名義任何方式把臺灣從祖國分割出去。
“和平統一”即“peaceful reunification”或“reunify peacefully”；實現和平統一即“achieve peaceful reunification”。
