According to the organizing committee of the Chinese Sports Culture & Sports Tourism Expo, Tongren dragon boat racing in Guizhou province has been recognized as a "2013 China High-Quality Sports Tourism Competition."
The dragon boat race has a long history in Tongren. Since 2008, Tongren has held a series of dragon boat events, including the International Dragon Boat Invitational Tournament in China, the National Traditional Dragon Boat Competition and the Chinese Dragon Boat Competition.

The Chinese Dragon Boat Association awarded Bijiang district of Tongren city the title of "Dragon Boat Village".
As traditional form of exercise, Tongren dragon boat racing was listed in the third group of national-level intangible cultural heritages in May 2010.
