The city of Guiyang, in Guizhou province, is in the lead in China's big data industrial development and is expected to see energetic growth as the local government does everything it can to support big data, and with the industry expected to be worth 130 billion yuan ($19.92 billion) in 2016, for a 40-percent increase over last year, with dozens of new projects.
The government reports that Guiyang's big data and related industries did 91.6-billion-yuan worth of business in 2015, for 38-percent growth over 2014 and accounting for some 45-percent of the province's total data business and that its call center had 100,000 seats in 2015 and is expected to reach 150,000 this year and to be worth $800 million in outsourcing services.
In 2015, the city was approved for a national big data gathering zone and big data technological innovation pilot zone, followed by the necessary regulations and development guidelines from the State, and the city's big data five-year plan and strategic action plan.
As the capital of under-developed Guizhou province, the city will get favorable policies to attract a large number of companies including prominent ones such as Hewlett Packard, Intel, Microsoft, Google and Uber.
It has around 18 national research institutions, 87 talent bases, 8 national and provincial incubators to promote innovation in emerging industries which can be converted into applications to serve people and government management in the coming year. Big data is expected to have a great influence on taxation, credit, safety, and poverty alleviation with government data support.
