Chinese Football Association yesterday accepted Zhu Guanghu’s resignation as national coach in the wake of last month's Asian Cup debacle and are looking for a foreigner to replace him, local newspapers reported.
China failed to progress beyond the group stage for the first time in more than 20 years after Uzbekistan beat them 3-0 in their final group game in Malaysia.
"Zhu Guanghu's tenure as coach of the national team has finished," the Beijing News quoted the team's general manager Wei Shaohui as saying.
Local media had previously reported China began looking for a new coach within days of their elimination from the tournament.
"There will definitely be a foreign coach for the (2010) World Cup qualifiers," Wei said.
China's Olympic coach Ratomir Dujkovic would be considered if the search for a "suitable" coach proved fruitless, he added.
"After coaching for three years, and having to give up the post to someone else, it's hard to reconcile," Zhu was quoted by the paper as saying.
Last month, former France striker Jean-Pierre Papin said he had been approached about the post, and local media have linked former Chelsea manager Ruud Gullit and ex-Germany and Scotland boss Berti Vogts with the job.

據(jù)報道，繼上月國足遭遇亞洲杯慘敗之后，昨日，中國足協(xié)接受朱廣滬辭去國足教練的辭職申請，同時正在物色一位外籍人士擔(dān)任下任國足主帥。
上月，國足在馬來西亞舉行的亞洲杯最后一場小組賽中以3比0慘敗烏茲別克斯坦，20多年來首次未獲小組出線權(quán)。
《新京報》援引國足領(lǐng)隊蔚少輝的話說，“朱廣滬在國家隊的教練任期已結(jié)束。”
此前，媒體報道稱，國足在亞洲杯慘遭淘汰幾天后，中國足協(xié)已開始物色國足主帥的新人選。
蔚少輝說：“我們會聘請一名外籍教練帶領(lǐng)球隊爭奪2010 年世界杯的入場券。”
他說，如果找不到“合適”的人選，足協(xié)將考慮啟用目前國奧隊主帥杜伊科維奇。
《新京報》援引朱廣滬的話說：“在國家隊執(zhí)教三年，我不甘心就這么讓出來。”
上月，前法國隊前鋒吉恩?皮埃爾?帕潘說，足協(xié)已就國足主帥一事與他進(jìn)行了接觸。另有報道稱，切爾西俱樂部前主教練魯?shù)?古力特及德國和蘇格蘭國家隊前任主教練貝爾蒂?福格茨也有望成為候選人。
